He outlined their innovative strategy of sharing heat from servers with those in need at no cost. Had an amazing meeting with Shara Ticku, CEO and co-founder of @gopalmless C16 Biosciences in #Miami. I was inspired by how she is addressing the high environmental cost of conflict palm oil, while also solving for a $61bn industry. It`s no wonder that C16 Biosciences is a top choice for Bill Gates` investments in fats and oils.
I found the stats she shared arresting, realities that motivated her to solve the problems caused by the palm oil industry - used in food clothing and cosmetics - contributing to deforestation in Costa Rica and Indonesia and the release of carbon dioxide:

- #deforestation has contributed to about a third of all carbon dioxide emissions since 1850, as stated by @mit ecologist Jerry Melillo.
- The climate pollution from #palmoil plantations is half of that produced by the entire aviation industry.
- Annually, 51 billion tons of #greenhousegases are released globally, with fats and oils production from animals and plants accounting for 7% of this emission.

C16 is a #newyork based #biotech company producing sustainable alternatives to palm oil that received funding from the @gatesfoundation @elementalexcelerator @breakthrough_energy DCVC and $36.3 million in equity funding along with $2 million in grant funding from the @department_of_energy and Agile BioFoundry.

Ms. Ticku highlighted:
“We develop biodesigned ingredients focusing on fats and oils. The fats and oils market currently stands at $250 billion and is projected to reach $900 billion by 2050. We have recently made significant strides, including our foray into the food sector and a blog post from Bill Gates endorsing his investment in fats and oils and why C16 is his top choice. The #EU #Deforestation Regulation is expected to greatly benefit our business.”

C16 aims to provide an environmentally friendly substitute to conflict palm oil using age old fermentation process to produce palm oil from microbes.

Emphasis is placed on controlling server emissions, predicting future emissions, and making informed decisions. Renewable energy sources power data centers, while AI is utilized to forecast future emissions from data centers and communications.
During the #energytransition phase, #Aramco has implemented two key programs:
* a 1996-2023 initiative to fully utilize solar PV systems in 50 communication sites, resulting in the avoidance of 10,500 #co2 emissions, alongside
* an #energyefficiency program initiated in 2015 that led to a 15% reduction in total energy consumption.
